A Simple Guide to Facial Rejuvenation

Commonly known as Botox®, the facial rejuvenation treatment using Botulinum toxin is becoming increasingly popular as a method of softening facial lines and attaining a youthful and revitalised complexion. Derived from an inactive organism Clostridium botulinum found in the natural environment, Botulinum toxin can be administered in extremely small concentrations, to relax the muscles which cause creasing in the overlaying skin.

The Benefits

As we age, the collagen production which supports our skin slows down, causing it to lose elasticity and expressive lines to become more prominent. Factors such as sun exposure, air pollution and stress, will all impact on the appearance of the skin and deepen the natural lines and wrinkles that occur. The formation of wrinkles is also accelerated as we are less able to repair the damage. Botulinum toxin as a means of rejuvenation is highly effective in that it tackles the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and additionally prevents new wrinkles from developing. Once the treatment comes into effect, lines will fade away as the muscles are relaxed and a glowing, more youthful look will result.

The main areas that can be treated are:

-          Crows feet at the corner of the eyes
-          frown lines between the eyebrows
-          forehead line or worry lines
-          eyebrow lift
-          bunny lines
-          gummy smiles

The treatment is applied via injections to the specific muscles, with no requirement for anaesthetic and only minor discomfort. In blocking the nerve signals to the underlying muscles, the muscles cannot contract, leaving any problem lines and wrinkles to soften. Botulinum toxin has been used for years by doctors and registered practitioners and is a safe way to rejuvenate and swiftly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and ageing.

The Effects

This is a safe and simple procedure which will allow you to resume normal activities immediately. The effects of this facial rejuvenation treatment are usually visible after two or three days, though the full benefits can be seen up to seven days after the treatment. The results will last for about three to six months before repeat treatments are required.

5 Top Tips for a Healthy Mouth

This month marks the beginning of National Smile Month – a campaign run by the British Dental Health Foundation, to educate people on how they can take better care of their teeth.  Good oral hygiene can have many great benefits – from reducing the chances of gum disease to giving you a beautiful, pearly white smile.

A Little Goes a Long Way

Making that conscious effort to clean your teeth properly, could be one way to make them last longer. If you want to know how to take care better care of your teeth, a dentist will be able to advise you on things like the right positions for brushing your teeth. For example, brushing your teeth quickly simply won’t do the trick – however if you take the time to floss between as many teeth as possible and adapt a generous routine, you will have a better chance of reducing common mouth problems such as, tooth decay.

If you find it difficult cleaning your teeth because they are too tight together, you can use interdental brushes.  They are designed to clean between teeth which are positioned too close together. They will allow you to floss your teeth effectively, to prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar.

To help you further, here are 5 top tips for a healthy mouth:

1.       Limit coffee and tea, as caffeine can stain your teeth, making them appear yellow

2.       Chew sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva, which will prevent your mouth from drying out

4.       Use a mouthwash which contains an anti-bacterial properties to help control gum disease

5.       Stop smoking, so that you prevent the likeliness of serious oral problems such as, tooth decay, gum disease and worst of all – mouth cancer

Taking good care of your teeth will not only give you a nice smile, but it will control other problems such as bad breath.  This is caused by the build-up of food that is rotting in your teeth and around your gums and tongue.  Bad breath is unpleasant, and if you do not clean your teeth properly it could result in a whole host of problems.

Visiting a Dentist

Seeing your dentist regularly will reassure you of your oral well-being, providing you are taking good care of them in your own time, every day too. Your dentist is a trained professional, who will be able to thoroughly examine your teeth, and assess the condition they are in.  They will be able to advise you appropriately on any care or treatment plans to improve your oral hygiene.  For example, some dentists may even suggest orthodontic treatment to straighten your teeth, if you have gapped or crooked teeth.

Orthodontic treatment involves the use of braces, which work to straighten your teeth into a better position, so that your teeth are correctly aligned. This will help you to chew better – and most importantly, will allow you to clean your teeth a lot easier.

Smile Spa offer orthodontic treatment for braces, and can provide regular dental check-ups to all patients.  For more information you can visit smilespauk.com
